MUMBAI, INDIA--(Marketwire - July 18, 2012) - GPX Global Systems, Inc. (GPX) has today become the first company in South Asia to secure a Tier IV certification, meeting the maximum reliability level accredited by The Uptime Institute.
There are only 23 other facilities in the world recognised by the Uptime Institute as TIER IV designed, constructed, or operationally certified, guaranteeing the highest level of reliability and availability. The new state-of-the-art, 4,000m2, carrier neutral, GPX IDC is located in the Green, LEED Certified, Boomerang Building in the prestigious East Andheri section of Mumbai.
The Uptime Institute, Inc. (Institute) developed a four-tiered classification approach to site infrastructure functionality that addressed the need for a common benchmarking standard to compare various data center facilities. The Institute''s system has been in use since 1995 and has become the default standard for the data center industry. They currently provide Tiered Certifications in more than 25 countries.
While many in the industry believe that Tier Certification pertains to TIA-942, the Uptime Institute''s Tier Classification System is a distinct, separate benchmarking system from the TIA-942.
The TIA-942 committee borrowed heavily from the Uptime Institute''s Tier Classification System when developing its standards. However, the Uptime Institutehas not endorsed TIA-942 because they felt that it does not ensure the configuration and functionality necessary for high availability.
Commenting on the announcement Nick Tanzi GPX CEO said; we''re honoured to be the first ''Uptime Certified'' TIER IV data center facility in South Asia. Other providers claim to operate TIER IV data centers, but their facilities lack the critical infrastructure to ensure fault tolerant operations, and the credible endorsement from The Uptime Institute, ''The Data Center Authority''.
